Our mission

Built by people who know what it's like to cross the language gap.

Medical English isn't a language problem — it's a career problem disguised as one. Brilliant clinicians are gated out of conferences, journals, rotations, and collaborations by six recurring sounds. We exist to remove that gate.

The story

From Canada to Madrid, and what we saw on arrival.

Our founder relocated from Canada to Spain in 2022. Within six months of shadowing in Madrid hospitals, the same scene played out again and again: a senior Spanish physician — brilliant in medicine, fluent on paper — would hesitate on a phone call, soften their authority in English, or pass on an international opportunity because the conference Q&A felt like a minefield.

Generic language apps weren't the answer. Private tutors weren't scalable. And the people who needed it most — residents between night shifts, attendings between operating days — had no time for either.

Medicidiom started with twelve scenarios, co-authored with cardiologists at Hospital 12 de Octubre, and one belief: that an AI that genuinely understands clinical English could collapse the language barrier into a manageable, measurable problem.

That belief is still the project. Everything else is execution.

Milestones

The road so far.

2022

The relocation

Our founder moves from Canada to Spain. Spends six months shadowing in Madrid hospitals, watching brilliant clinicians struggle with English.

2023

The realization

Talks with 80+ Spanish physicians, residents, and researchers. The pattern is identical: same six pronunciation errors, same career bottlenecks, same generic apps that don't help.

2024

First scenarios

Builds the first 12 medical scenarios with cardiologists at Hospital 12 de Octubre. The AI Coach prototype runs live conversation for the first time.

2025

Launch

Partners with CNIC for institutional rollout. 500+ clinicians training daily. SpeakBetter.AI pronunciation engine ships.

2026

Now

Expanding to Latin America. New scenario libraries for OET, USMLE, and country-specific rotation prep.

Values

How we build.

Clinical first

Every feature is co-authored with practicing clinicians. If it doesn't earn its place on a ward, it doesn't ship.

Built for the diaspora

Spanish-speaking medicine is global. Our scenarios cover NHS, North American, EU, and Latin American clinical contexts.

Empathy in the loop

Pronunciation matters. Vocabulary matters. But warmth, register, and bedside humanity matter more. We measure them all.

Transparent measurement

No streak gimmicks, no vanity badges. We score what predicts real-world fluency, and we show our work.

Partners

Built with the institutions our users serve.

Every scenario in our library is reviewed by practicing clinicians at the partner hospitals and research institutes our users come from.
